Methods to Characterize Electrospun Scaffold Morphology: A Critical Review

Alex Lopez Marquez et al.

Summary: Electrospun scaffolds are an important research direction in tissue engineering as they can imitate the hierarchical structures of the extracellular matrix. This article discusses the issues with commonly used methods for characterizing electrospun scaffolds and proposes more suitable imaging and physical measurement methods. The results show that imaging methods have the most benefits, with limitations only in terms of cost and expertise. By using more accurate characterization methods, researchers can gain a better understanding of the characteristics of electrospun scaffolds.

Controlling cell elongation and orientation by using microstructural nanofibre scaffolds for accelerating tissue regeneration

Nur Adila Mohd Razali et al.

Summary: This study fabricated four types of engineered topographic surfaces using microfabrication processes and demonstrated that the triangular microstructural nanofibers have a strong guiding performance to induce cellular elongation and alignment longitudinally. In vitro experiments showed that cells cultured on the triangular microstructural nanofibrous scaffold elongated four-fold compared to those on flat nanofiber scaffold. Additionally, an in vivo study revealed that wounds treated with the triangular microstructural nanofiber scaffold achieved high wound closure and orderly collagen arrangement, showing the potential for accelerating tissue regeneration and wound healing applications.
