Cannabinomics is a scientific field that focuses on studying the natural compounds found in the Cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, for various applications such as medicine, bioconstruction, materials, and biofuels. However, due to the complex chemical nature and diverse constituents of the Cannabis plant, there are still numerous unexplored applications. Therefore, further studies and advancements in analytical instrumentation and identification methods are crucial for better understanding its composition and organization.
Cannabinomics, an omics field of science that is focused on the study of the natural compounds found in the Cannabis plant, including the cannabinoids, have been explored over the years for application in medicine, bioconstruction, materials, and biofuels, among others. Advances in omics applicability are extraordinary; however, due to the chemical complexity of the Cannabis plant and the plurality of its constituents, there is still a great variety of unexplored applications. Therefore, more studies need to be carried out and the evolution of analytical instrumentation and new methods of identification are important for a better understanding of its composition and histological organization. Thus, general concepts related to the study of chemical composition with classical methodologies and techniques like colorimetric tests, chromatographic analysis, and modern instrumentation such as chemical imaging by mass spectrometry, are presented in this review of the literature.
