Synthesis and Properties of Epoxy Resin Modified with Novel Reactive Liquid Rubber-Based Systems

Rafal Januszewski et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of new epoxy-containing liquid rubber-based modifiers on the thermal and mechanical properties of cured epoxy resins was investigated. The epoxy-functional polybutadienes obtained via conventional epoxidation reaction or catalytic hydrosilylation were successfully applied for modifying commercially available epoxy resins to adjust their mechanical properties. The different locations of oxirane rings in polybutadiene chains were found to have a significant impact on the thermal and mechanical properties of cured resins.

Synthesis of Silsesquioxanes with Substituted Triazole Ring Functionalities and Their Coordination Ability

Monika Rzonsowska et al.

Summary: This study presents a synthesis method for a series of silsesquioxanes bearing substituted triazole ring(s), utilizing the copper(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition process. By investigating the coordinating properties of these compounds towards selected transition metals, such as Pd(II), Pt(II), and Rh(I), four SQs-based coordination compounds were successfully formed in high yields.

Schiff Base Cobalt(II) Complex-Catalyzed Highly Markovnikov-Selective Hydrosilylation of Alkynes

Maciej Skrodzki et al.

Summary: A bench-stable cobalt(II) complex, with a 3N-donor socket-type benzimidazole-imine-2H-imidazole ligand, is reported as an efficient precatalyst for regioselective hydrosilylation of terminal alkynes, providing high yields with excellent selectivity. This catalyst loading range of 0.5-0.05 mol % is among the most efficient reported for cobalt-catalyzed alkyne hydrosilylation in the literature.

Cobalt-Catalyzed Hydroboration of Terminal and Internal Alkynes

Maria J. Gonzalez et al.

Summary: A novel methodology for accessing versatile vinylboronic esters through a cobalt-catalyzed hydroboration reaction is reported, utilizing ligand-controlled reduction of Co(II) by H-BPin to generate catalytically active Co(I) hydride complexes. This approach eliminates the need for stoichiometric amounts of base and avoids the generation of boron-containing byproducts, resulting in high functional group tolerance and atom economy.

Ruthenium-Catalyzed, Chemoselective and Regioselective Oxidation of Polyisobutene

Liye Chen et al.

Summary: The lack of functional groups in polyolefins limits their applications, but the functionalization of C-H bonds holds promise for incorporating functionalities into ethylene and linear alpha-olefins polymers. The selective functionalization of polyolefins derived from branched alkenes has not been achieved due to steric effects, but a polyfluorinated ruthenium-porphyrin catalyst successfully incorporates ketone units into polyisobutene without chain cleavage, resulting in a thermally stable polymer with enhanced wetting properties.

Metal-Catalyzed Postpolymerization Strategies for Polar Group Incorporation into Polyolefins Containing C-C, C=C, and Aromatic Rings

Gabriel Menendez Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This contribution provides the current state of the art of metal-catalyzed modification of polyolefins and subsequent polar group incorporation. The direct synthesis from polar monomers is often precluded by catalyst poisoning or uncontrolled side reactions, so modifying a previously prepared polymer through a postpolymerization route is a common alternative. Polyolefins, especially the saturated ones, are challenging substrates to work with due to the limited potential reaction sites within the polymer.

Synthesis and post-polymerization modification of poly(propargyl 2-ylidene-acetate)

Zengwen Li et al.

Summary: Rhodium(I)-catalyzed C1 polymerization of propargyl 2-diazoacetate was successfully conducted for the first time, resulting in a novel poly(propargyl 2-ylidene-acetate) derivative suitable for subsequent post-polymerization modification. The post-modification reactions exhibit high reactivity and provide an efficient and general route for selective modification of C1 polymers. Furthermore, the introduction of pentafluorophenyl azide facilitates a subsequent second modification via the Para-Fluoro-Thiol reaction, leading to the synthesis of novel polymethylenes not accessible by direct C1 polymerization.

Copper-free Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions: an overview

Fatemeh Mohajer et al.

Summary: The Sonogashira reaction is a key cross-coupling reaction in organic synthesis, forming a C-C bond between a vinyl or aryl halide and a terminal alkyne. While traditionally requiring copper and phosphines or amines as co-catalysts and bases, recent developments have enabled the reaction to proceed without these components. This advancement could promote the principles of green chemistry and enhance the economic feasibility of the reaction.
