Switchable Photoresponse Mechanisms Implemented in Single van der Waals Semiconductor/Metal Heterostructure

Mingde Du et al.

Summary: In this study, a vdW semiconductor/metal heterostructure was built with 2D semiconducting InSe and metallic 1T-phase NbTe2. The results showed that the heterostructure exhibited switchable photoresponse mechanisms under suitable band alignment at the interface, providing a new approach for constructing optoelectronic devices.

Ultrafast photocarrier and coherent phonon dynamics in type-II Dirac semimetal PtTe2 thin films probed by optical spectroscopy

Peng Suo et al.

Summary: We report on the ultrafast photocarrier dynamics and coherent phonon excitation in platinum ditelluride (PtTe2) thin films, which are type-II Dirac semimetals. Using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy at room temperature, we quantitatively analyze the incoherent electronic relaxation and observe the generation of coherent acoustic phonon (CAP) and coherent optical phonon (COP). Our findings provide deep insight into the excitation and dynamics of CAP and COP, as well as the photocarriers' recovery pathway and lifetimes in PtTe2.

Ultrafast Dynamics of Defect-Assisted Auger Process in PdSe2Films:Synergistic Interaction between Defect Trapping and Auger Effect

Di Li et al.

Summary: We investigated the photocarrier dynamics in PdSe2 films with different thicknesses using optical pump and terahertz probe spectroscopy. Our experimental results showed the presence of two components in the photocarrier relaxation process, a fast component and a slow component. The interaction between defect trapping and Auger effect was found to dominate the photocarrier dynamics in PdSe2 films. We proposed a model involving defect-assisted Auger process which reproduced the experimental results well.

Thickness-dependent ultrafast hot carrier and phonon dynamics of PtSe2 films measured with femtosecond transient optical spectroscopy

Wentao Qiu et al.

Summary: The study reveals that the hot carrier dynamics of PtSe2 are significantly dependent on its thickness, with different processes contributing to carrier decay in semiconducting and metallic PtSe2 films. In semiconducting films, electron-phonon coupling, interlayer charge transfer, and nonradiative recombination are involved, while in metallic films, electron-phonon coupling dominates the carrier decay.

Optical parametric amplification by monolayer transition metal dichalcogenides

Chiara Trovatello et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the possibility of achieving single-pass optical parametric amplification at the ultimate thickness limit using semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenides, bypassing phase-matching requirements and achieving ultrabroad amplification bandwidths. The amplification process is independent of the in-plane polarization of the signal and pump fields, paving the way for the development of atom-sized tunable sources of radiation with potential applications in nanophotonics and quantum information technology.

Summary: In this study, the photocarrier dynamics and thickness dependent interlayer coherent phonon modes in PdSe2 films were systematically investigated using ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. The analysis based on a simple one-dimensional chain model revealed important parameters for the interlayer force constant and sound velocity in PdSe2 films. These experimental findings pave the way for designing and developing optoelectronic and nanomechanic devices based on PdSe2.

Dirac semimetal PdTe2 temperature-dependent quasiparticle dynamics and electron-phonon coupling

Shu-Yu Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the ultrafast carrier and phonon dynamics of Dirac semi-metal PdTe2 single-crystal using ultrafast optical pump-probe spectroscopy. It revealed fast relaxation process from electron-phonon thermalization and slower relaxation process from phonon-assisted electron-hole recombination. The analysis suggested the A(1g) mode contributes greatly to superconductivity and high-frequency phonons are involved in forming Cooper pairs in PdTe2.

Classical linear magnetoresistance in exfoliated NbTe2 nanoflakes

Siyao Gu et al.

Summary: This study reports magnetotransport data measured in two devices fabricated from NbTe2 nanoflakes, revealing a nonsaturating linear magnetoresistance phenomenon. Analysis shows that this phenomenon can be explained within the framework of the effective-medium theory, indicating that the linear magnetoresistance of NbTe2 is likely induced by disorders and inhomogeneities. Abundant domain structures observed in NbTe2 crystals in transmission electron microscopy measurements support this speculation.
