Rational Design of Durable Anti-fouling Coatings with High Transparency, Hardness, and Flexibility

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: A highly transparent, durable, flexible and smooth coating with excellent anti-fouling properties, called TAHF coating, has been developed. The coating shows high transparency (98.8%), anti-fouling performance, high hardness (8H), and flexibility simultaneously. It has excellent liquid repellence even after exposure to outdoor conditions, UV light, wear and bending cycles. This coating could provide a new route for the design of multifunctional anti-fouling coatings for practical applications.

Ultrathin Durable Organic Hydrophobic Coatings Enhancing Dropwise Condensation Heat Transfer

Abinash Tripathy et al.

Summary: The perfluorodecanethiol (PFDT) coating has demonstrated superior performance in terms of heat transfer and durability compared to other organic coatings such as perfluorodecyltriethoxysilane (PFDTS) and perfluorodecyl acrylate (PFDA). Despite being a monolayer, the PFDT coating exhibited dropwise condensation for at least 63 hours without deterioration, showcasing its hydrolytic stability. Additionally, the cost of thiol functionalization per area was the lowest among the surface hydrophobic treatments used in the study.

Self-Stratified Versatile Coatings for Three-Dimensional Printed Underwater Physical Sensors Applications

Doeun Kim et al.

Summary: A new strategy utilizing the swelling of polymers in solvents has been successfully developed for developing versatile nano-structured surfaces with mechanically durable superhydrophobic characteristics, even on complex 3D structured surfaces. The partial embedding of nanoparticles into the ABS surface due to swelling and self-stratification is considered the reason for the increased mechanical strength of the coating. Additionally, the original concept of power-free physical sensors responding to changes in temperature, pressure, and surface tension was proposed using this idea.
