Statistical study and corresponding evolution of plasmaspheric plumes under different levels of geomagnetic storms

Haimeng Li et al.

Summary: Using observations of Van Allen Probes, the research presents a statistical study of plasmaspheric plumes in the inner magnetosphere. It is found that plasmaspheric plumes tend to occur during the recovery phase of geomagnetic storms and their occurrence rate is higher during stronger geomagnetic activity. This is different from the observations of the Cluster satellite, which suggests that plasmaspheric plumes near the magnetopause tend to be observed during moderate geomagnetic activity.
