Bacterial aerosol, particulate matter, and microclimatic parameters in the horse stables in Poland

Jacek Grzyb et al.

Summary: Maintaining horses in good condition requires suitable living conditions including space, nutrition, water, and a favorable microclimate. High concentrations of PM and bacterial aerosols in stables were found to be strongly correlated, with runners having higher contamination levels than box stables.

Modeling Exposure to Fecal Contamination in Drinking Water due to Multiple Water Source Use

Sean W. Daly et al.

Summary: The Joint Monitoring Programme estimated that 71% of people globally had access to safely managed drinking water in 2017. However, typical data collection practices do not capture the use of multiple water sources, which is common in low- and middle-income countries. This study simulated the exposure to fecal contamination when individuals supplement improved water with unimproved water and found that even supplementing for just 2 days annually can lead to a significant increase in E. coli exposure. These findings emphasize the importance of evaluating water quality and the temporal dynamics of water sources in LMICs for global monitoring of safe drinking water access.

Environmental Detection and Potential Transmission of Equine Herpesviruses

Summary: Equine herpesviruses (EHV) are important pathogens for domestic and wild equids, with most known EHVs being transmitted through direct contact or environmental factors. Understanding environmental stability and transmission is crucial for monitoring viral dynamics and EHV shedding.
