Mineral Fertilization and Maize Cultivation as Factors Which Determine the Content of Trace Elements in Soil

Marzena S. Brodowska et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of increasing potassium fertilization, in combination with nitrogen, on the content of trace elements in soil after maize harvest. Potassium fertilization had a stronger effect on zinc and nickel content. Nitrogen fertilization increased manganese, chromium, nickel, and cadmium content, while decreasing lead content in soil. Although changes in nickel, cadmium, and lead content were more pronounced, they did not exceed current threshold amounts set for agriculturally used soil. An increase in some trace elements in soil can be beneficial for agricultural purposes.

Effect of Fertilization with Sludge-Ash Granulates on the Activity of Selected Soil Enzymes

Ewa Mozdzer

Summary: This study examined the effects of sludge-ash granulates produced from waste on the activity of dehydrogenase, phosphatase, and urease in a two-factorial vegetation experiment. The results showed that the type of granulate, dose, and sampling date had a significant impact on the growth activity of the enzymes. The application of sludge-ash granulates stimulated the increase in dehydrogenase, phosphatase, and urease activities.

Understanding the Effect of Irrigation with Chromium Loaded Tannery Effluent on Ocimum basilicum L. vis-a-vis Metal Uptake

Anand Kumar Gupta et al.

Summary: The study found that irrigation with heavy metal loaded tannery effluent can increase herbal biomass but may lead to decreased oil yield in basil plants. However, basil plants are effective in absorbing chromium from tannery effluents.

The Delayed Effect of Low-Energy Lignite Organic Matter on the Treatment Optimization of Zea mays L. Grown for Silage

Barbara Symanowicz et al.

Summary: The field experiment aimed to determine the effect of low-energy lignite organic matter applied as an organomineral fertilizer on the treatment optimization of maize grown for silage. The study found that the use of mineral fertilizers reduced nutrient content in the plants, but the treatment of NPKMgS + N1 and NPKMgS + N2 resulted in the highest agronomic efficiency. Additionally, the application of low-energy lignite organic matter positively affected nutrient uptake and physiological efficiency.

The Effects of Physicochemical Parameters on Analysed Soil Enzyme Activity from Alice Landfill Site

Nontobeko Gloria Maphuhla et al.

Summary: The study examined the levels of enzyme activity in soil from polluted and unpolluted sites and found that invertase was the predominant enzyme in all soil samples, while urease activity was low. The correlation between enzyme activity and soil physicochemical properties varied, with dumpsite soil showing low enzyme activity levels. Additionally, only phosphatase activity showed positive correlation with all examined physicochemical parameters.

Soil organic carbon cycling in response to simulated soil moisture variation under field conditions

Shikha Singh et al.

Summary: A field experiment was conducted in the southeastern US to investigate the effects of soil moisture on soil carbon mineralization processes. The results showed that under drought conditions, soil respiration decreased, but microbial biomass carbon, extractable organic carbon, and fungal abundance increased. The findings highlight the critical role of microbial metabolism in response to soil moisture variation and its impact on different pools of soil carbon under field conditions.

Effect of Forage Plant Mixture and Biostimulants Application on the Yield, Changes of Botanical Composition, and Microbiological Soil Activity

Waldemar Zielewicz et al.

Summary: An increasing interest in fertilizers that stimulate soil bioactivity as well as supply nutrients to plants has been noted. This study investigated the combined effect of forage plant mixtures and mineral fertilizers with biostimulants on botanical composition, yield, soil microorganisms, and enzymatic activity. The application of biostimulants showed beneficial effects on biomass yields of grass mixtures, while causing soil acidification and decreased enzymatic activity. The study found that NPK + Physioactiv was most effective in mitigating the negative effects of nitrogen fertilization on soil pH.
