Joint associations of physical activity and sedentary time with adiposity during adolescence: ALSPAC

Longitudinal change in physical activity and adiposity in the transition from adolescence to early adulthood: the 1993 Pelotas cohort study

Soyang Kwon et al.

Summary: This study examined the changes in body fat mass during late adolescence to early adulthood based on whether individuals met the physical activity guidelines for youth and adults. The findings suggest that engaging in at least 22 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day in adulthood is associated with lower body fat gain for females, but not for males.

Life course socioeconomic position and body composition in adulthood: a systematic review and narrative synthesis

Charis Bridger Staatz et al.

Summary: The systematic review examined the association between socioeconomic position (SEP) throughout the life course and body composition (fat and lean mass). Results showed that in high-income countries (HICs), advantage in childhood and adulthood was associated with lower fat levels, while the opposite was found in middle-income countries (MICs). The study also revealed that women in HICs are more likely to experience inequalities in both fat and lean measures.
