Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome Associated Kaposi Sarcoma

Isabelle Poizot-Martin et al.

Summary: Kaposi sarcoma-immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome (KS-IRIS) is a common disease among people living with HIV, despite the improvement of KS with antiretroviral therapy (ART), the occurrence of KS-IRIS still exists and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Case Report: Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing Can Contribute to the Diagnosis and Treatment of Disseminated Visceral Kaposi Sarcoma Following Allogeneic Haematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

Kuangguo Zhou et al.

Summary: This study reported a patient who developed disseminated visceral KS following HSCT and demonstrated the relationship between KS development, delayed immune reconstitution, and HHV-8 DNA levels using mNGS. The study also explored the molecular mechanism underlying the patient's longer latency of haematopoietic or immune reconstitution and recurrent infections through whole-exome sequencing.

Oral-visceral iatrogenic Kaposi sarcoma following treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia: a case report and review of the literature

Richard Nyeko et al.

Summary: This case report highlights a rare occurrence of visceral Kaposi sarcoma as a second malignancy following treatment for pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia. The patient responded well to a two-drug regimen and successful treatment was achieved. The rarity of the condition may lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment if clinicians do not consider it during surveillance of children treated for leukemia.

Donor-derived human herpesvirus 8 and development of Kaposi sarcoma among 6 recipients of organs from donors with high-risk sexual and substance use behavior

Sheila C. Dollard et al.

Summary: The US opioid crisis has led to an increase in organ donors with substance use disorder, raising the risk of HHV-8 transmission to recipients and subsequent development of KS. Increased awareness of the risk associated with organs from donors with HHV-8 infection risk is crucial for recipient management and requires better testing methods.
