Analysis on the susceptibility of environmental geological disasters considering regional sustainable development

Haipeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study examines the susceptibility of environmental geological disasters in Helong City, China, such as collapses, landslides, and debris flows. Through analysis and the use of GIS, the study identifies several factors that contribute to the occurrence of these disasters. The results suggest that the northeast and central areas of the study area are highly susceptible to environmental geological disasters, highlighting the need for prevention and control measures in these regions. The establishment of a vulnerability analysis database and prediction models can aid in accurate disaster prevention and mitigation, leading to cost reduction and promoting regional sustainable development.

The impact of natural disasters on rural household wealth: Micro evidence from China

Shaoyong Wu et al.

Summary: Examining the impact of natural disasters on rural household wealth, this study analyzed data from the China Family Panel Survey (CFPS) using multiple linear regression and propensity score matching methods. The findings showed that natural disasters have a significant negative impact on rural household wealth in the medium-to long-term. Heterogeneity analysis indicated that natural disasters have a greater effect on the wealth of larger households and households with high-consumption levels, while mechanism results suggest that natural disasters affect rural household wealth by reducing household income and harming individual's physical and mental health.

Spatiotemporal evolution and surface response of land subsidence over a large-scale land creation area on the Chinese Loess Plateau

Chuanhao Pu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the spatiotemporal development pattern and long-term temporal response of land subsidence related to land creation in the Yan'an New District (YND) in China. It revealed that the observed long-term subsidence patterns in the land creation area showed an exponentially decaying trend with the fill compaction process. The spatial variation in the significant land subsidence zone gradually shifted toward the newly formed fill area as the land creation area expanded. Additionally, the ground displacement response estimates highlighted that most of the Qiaoergou subsidence zone in the YND will continue to sink for approximately 7.2 years.
