Importance of local non-fossil sources to carbonaceous aerosols at the eastern fringe of the Tibetan Plateau, China:?14C and d???????13C evidences

Chaoliu Li et al.

Summary: Carbonaceous particles in the atmosphere exhibit large variations in concentrations and compositions, especially in remote regions. This study investigated the delta C-14 and delta C-13 of TC and IPC in TSP and PM2.5 at a remote site on the eastern Tibetan Plateau. The findings reveal the important influence of local biomass combustion emissions on carbonaceous particles.

Composition and sources of heavy metals in aerosol at a remote site of Southeast Tibetan Plateau, China

Yinbo Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the elemental composition and sources of total suspended particles at a remote site in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. The results showed relatively low elemental concentrations compared to other areas, with seasonal variations and sources identified as crustal, anthropogenic, and mixed origins. The findings demonstrated the transport of heavy metals from external sources to remote sites in the region.

Measurement of light-absorbing particles in surface snow of central and western Himalayan glaciers: spatial variability, radiative impacts, and potential source regions

Chaman Gul et al.

Summary: Snow samples from different glaciers in the central and western Himalayas were collected to study the spatial variability and radiative impacts of light-absorbing particles. Higher mass concentrations of black carbon and organic carbon were found in the western Himalayas compared to the central Himalayas, possibly due to differences in elevation, snow age, local pollution sources, and meteorological conditions. Simulation results showed varying effects of black carbon on snow albedo reduction and radiative forcing among the glaciers, with the western Himalayan glaciers experiencing the highest impact. The main source regions of deposited pollutants were identified as South Asia and West Asia.

Unexpected High Absorption of Atmospheric Aerosols Over a Western Tibetan Plateau Site in Summer

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study quantified key aerosol parameters for the first time in the western Tibetan Plateau and found unexpectedly high absorption of atmospheric aerosols in the region during summer. The results suggest the need to carefully consider the radiative effects caused by aerosol absorption.

Sources and light absorption characteristics of water-soluble organic carbon (WSOC) of atmospheric particles at a remote area in inner Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau

Yawei Li et al.

Summary: WSOC is an important component of carbonaceous aerosols, with evidence showing its impact on sunlight absorption and scattering in the atmosphere. This study conducted a year-round investigation at a pristine station in the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau, revealing low WSOC concentrations and clean environment with significant contributions from local sources. Seasonal variations in WSOC concentrations and alpha/pWSOC values were observed, providing observational constraints for modeling the environmental impact of WSOC in the region.

Vertical profile of aerosols in the Himalayas revealed by lidar: New insights into their seasonal/diurnal patterns, sources, and transport*

Yan Xiang et al.

Summary: Atmospheric aerosols, especially in the Himalayas and Tibetan Plateau, play a crucial role in climate change. Seasonal and diurnal characteristics of aerosol vertical profiles were measured using a Mie lidar at Mt. Qomolangma in 2018-2019, showing distinct patterns of aerosol loading with different aerosol types and sources in different seasons. Investigation of aerosol vertical profiles at the QOMS can help regulate anthropogenic disturbance over the Tibetan Plateau.

GLC_FCS30: global land-cover product with fine classification system at 30m using time-series Landsat imagery

Xiao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study developed a novel global 30m land-cover classification system for 2015 by combining Landsat imagery and high-quality training data, achieving high accuracy. The GLC_FCS30-2015 product provides more detailed spatial information and a wider variety of land-cover types compared to other existing products, making it a valuable resource for global land-cover analysis.
