Removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions by X-type zeolite prepared from combination of oil shale ash and coal fly ash

Shuxia Bai et al.

Summary: This paper synthesized zeolite from a combination of oil shale ash and coal fly ash, and used it to remove heavy metals from aqueous solution. The structural characterization of the product was done through XRD and SEM, which proved that the ashes can be converted into zeolite. The adsorption performance of the synthetic zeolite for heavy metals was evaluated through batch experiments. The results showed that the adsorption followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics model and the Langmuir isotherm model described the isotherm data well. Based on equilibrium studies, the selectivity sequence for heavy metal adsorption was determined. XPS results indicated that the mechanism of heavy metal removal by the synthetic zeolite was ion exchange.

Modification of coal fly ash and its use as low-cost adsorbent for the removal of directive, acid and reactive dyes

Zawar Hussain et al.

Summary: In this study, modified coal fly ash showed good removal efficiency for various carcinogenic dyes, with a maximum removal efficiency of 96.03%. Langmuir and Freundlich models were suitable for adsorption isotherm analysis at different dye concentrations, indicating that the adsorption behaviors of all four dyes were better described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. Efficiencies and mechanisms of heavy metals adsorption on waste leather-derived high-nitrogen activated carbon

Yue Yuan et al.

Summary: High nitrogen activated carbon (HNAC) derived from waste leather can be used for adsorbing heavy metals from aqueous solutions with high efficiency, especially with a maximum adsorption capacity for Pb, Cu, Ni, and Co. The adsorption mechanisms of HNAC for multiple heavy metals have been investigated, showing the importance of nitrogen functional groups in achieving effective adsorption.

Stabilization of lead in waste water and farmland soil using modified coal fly ash

Lu Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the re-use of fly ash from coal-fired power plants for the adsorption of Pb(II). The modified fly ashes showed significantly increased surface area and improved affinity for Pb(II) compared to raw fly ashes. They were found to be effective in adsorptive stabilization of Pb(II) from waste water and contaminated soil, indicating their potential for resource recycling and cleaner production.
