Identification and recovery of local Vitis vinifera L. cultivars collected in ancient vineyards in different locations of Argentina

R. Torres et al.

Summary: This study identified a high diversity of grapevine phenotypes, particularly criollas, in ancient vineyards in western provinces of Argentina. These vineyards serve as reservoirs of minor cultivars, with growers playing a key role in maintaining and conserving them. The genetic diversity found provides valuable tools for exploring diversification and adaptation to climate change.

Genome Size Variation Assessment in Vitis vinifera L. Landraces in Ibiza and Formentera (Balearic Islands)

Raquel Gonzalez et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genome size of different grape landraces cultivated in the Pityusic Islands and found significant differences between landraces and cultivars, but no differences between islands. These results provide valuable information on genome size in Vitis vinifera and highlight the need for further research on the variations in genome size among different cultivars and landraces.

A Field Collection of Indigenous Grapevines as a Valuable Repository for Applied Research

Shani Shecori et al.

Summary: The grapevine is an economically important plant, but the diversity of cultivated grapevines and genetic diversity of wild germplasm have declined significantly due to the focus on a few major cultivars in the global wine industry. Therefore, it is crucial to conserve grape germplasm resources through in situ and Ex situ methods.

Genetic Diversity and Structure in a Spanish Grape Germplasm Collection Assessed by SSR Markers

Hiba Ghrissi et al.

Summary: This study explored the genetic diversity and structure of grapes curated at the germplasm bank of Aragon and linked them to cultivar utilization, putative geographic origin, and historical events. The results showed four distinct groups of grape cultivars, including some unknown Spanish genotypes which could be ancient cultivars adapted to local climatic and environmental conditions and resilient to face the new conditions derived from climate change.
