Circulating levels of ghrelin, galanin, and orexin-A orexigenic neuropeptides in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

Onder Ozturk et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the association of serum levels of orexigenic neuropeptides ghrelin, galanin, and orexin-A with OSAS, finding them to be independent determinants of the presence of OSAS and correlated with the severity of the condition, particularly with moderate OSAS.

Evaluation of Plasma/Serum Adiponectin (an Anti-Inflammatory Factor) Levels in Adult Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Amir Najafi et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate plasma/serum adiponectin levels in adult patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). The results showed significantly reduced levels of adiponectin in OSAS cases compared to controls, suggesting a potential role of adiponectin in the pathogenesis of OSAS.

Evaluation of Blood Intercellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (ICAM-1) Level in Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Mohammad Moslem Imani et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis investigated the differences in plasma/serum ICAM-1 levels between adults with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and controls, as well as between adults with severe OSA and mild/moderate OSA. The results showed that adults with OSA had higher levels of plasma/serum ICAM-1 compared to controls, and adults with severe OSA had higher levels compared to those with mild/moderate OSA. ICAM-1 may serve as an additional diagnostic and therapeutic biomarker in adults with OSA.

Association of Blood MCP-1 Levels with Risk of Obstructive Sleep Apnea: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Mohammad Moslem Imani et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between serum/plasma MCP-1 levels and the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in adults. The meta-analysis results showed that adults with OSA had significantly higher serum/plasma MCP-1 levels compared to the controls, and adults with severe OSA had even higher levels compared to those with mild to moderate OSA. Therefore, MCP-1 can be used as a diagnostic and therapeutic factor in adults with OSA.
