Pharmacological Effects of Guava (Psidium guajava L.) Seed Polysaccharides: GSF3 Inhibits PC-3 Prostate Cancer Cell Growth through Immunotherapy In Vitro

Hsiao-Chien Lin et al.

Summary: The study found that purified fractions isolated from guava seed polysaccharides, including GSF3, GSF1, and GSF2, have inhibitory effects on prostate cancer cells, with GSF3 showing the strongest effect. GSF3 significantly inhibited PC-3 cell growth through direct action or indirect immunotherapy, increasing pro-apoptotic gene expression ratios and Fas mRNA levels, indicating its potential as a biological response modifier for anti-prostate cancer therapy.

Summary: The study developed a self-emulsifying drug delivery system (nanoLPG) loaded with lycopene, which demonstrated good biocompatibility and colloidal stability in vivo. This system successfully delivered lycopene to the liver, kidney, and prostate in mice, enhancing its cytotoxicity against prostate cancer cells.
