Dual-aptamer-based enzyme linked plasmonic assay for pathogenic bacteria detection

Lei Zhan et al.

Summary: This article presents a simple method for bacterial detection using silver nanoplates as a chromogenic substrate. The method takes advantage of the specificity and affinity of aptamers, as well as the ability of catalase to hydrolyze H2O2. By introducing catalase into a sandwich structure composed of dual-aptamer recognition strategy, the bacterial detection signal is converted into a peak shift of local surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) and color change. This method enables fast naked-eye detection of Staphylococcus aureus.

Aptamer-Based Biosensors for the Colorimetric Detection of Blood Biomarkers: Paving the Way to Clinical Laboratory Testing

Anna Davydova et al.

Summary: Enzyme immunoassays are widely used in clinical diagnostics for human diseases, but they have limitations that have led to the search for alternative diagnostic assays. Oligonucleotide aptamers, with their high affinity and specificity, have emerged as promising molecular recognizing elements for biosensors. Although a wide variety of aptasensors have been developed for detecting various analytes, including disease biomarkers, only a few of them have been translated into diagnostic kits. This review focuses on aptamer-based colorimetric assays as the most suitable format for clinical lab diagnostics and discusses the main obstacles that need to be overcome before aptamer test systems can become as widely used as ELISA in clinical diagnosis purposes.
