Rapid and Effective Inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 with a Cationic Conjugated Oligomer with Visible Light: Studies of Antiviral Activity in Solutions and on Supports

Kemal Kaya et al.

Summary: This paper presents a study on a new cationic oligomer that can inactivate SARS-CoV-2 through visible light irradiation. The oligomer shows outstanding performance in killing E. coli bacterial cells and inactivating the virus in a short period of time. The study also suggests that oligomer-coated materials like wipes and filtration substrates can be useful in inactivating bacteria and viruses.

Controlled and Selective Photo-oxidation of Amyloid-β Fibrils by Oligomeric p-Phenylene Ethynylenes

Adeline M. Fanni et al.

Summary: A new class of photodynamic therapy photosensitizers has been discovered that selectively bind and oxidize amyloid aggregates. The selectivity of these photosensitizers overcomes the limitation of off-target oxidation and advances photodynamic therapy as a viable strategy for treating neurodegenerative disorders.

Integrated 18F-T807 Tau PET, Structural MRI, and Plasma Tau in Tauopathy Neurodegenerative Disorders

Cheng-Hsuan Li et al.

Summary: Tau-specific PET imaging with F-18-T807 tracer showed only modest changes in patients with non-AD tauopathies, with significant increases in cortical uptake observed in AD. Cortical tau tracer uptake correlated with plasma tau levels and regional cortical thinning, suggesting the need for further research using a more specific tracer for classifying tauopathy parkinsonism syndromes.

Proteopathic tau primes and activates interleukin-1β via myeloid-cell-specific MyD88-and NLRP3-ASC-inflammasome pathway

Shanya Jiang et al.

Summary: Pathological hyperphosphorylation and aggregation of tau, along with neuroinflammation driven by IL-1 beta, are key features of tauopathies. Research shows that pTau primes and activates IL-1 beta through MyD88- and NLRP3-ASC-dependent pathways in myeloid cells, including microglia, leading to tau pathology and cognitive dysfunction.
