Developmental toxicity of glyphosate on embryo-larval zebrafish (Danio rerio)

Zhihui Liu et al.

Summary: Glyphosate exposure in zebrafish larvae induces developmental toxicity, characterized by premature hatching, reduced heartbeats, and body deformities. This is likely due to disrupted thyroid function and abnormal expression of growth hormone/insulin-like growth factor axis-related genes. Additionally, glyphosate treatment leads to oxidative damage, endoplasmic reticulum stress, inflammatory reactions, and apoptosis.

Eicosapentaenoic acid mitigates palmitic acid-induced heat shock response, inflammation and repair processes in fish intestine

Peng Shi et al.

Summary: Understanding the metabolic effects of fatty acids on fish intestine is crucial for substituting fish oil with vegetable oils in aquaculture. This study evaluated the effects of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and palmitic acid (PA) on fish intestine through in vitro and in vivo experiments. The results suggest that PA may induce heat shock and inflammatory responses, as well as alter extracellular matrix formation and degradation in fish intestine, while EPA can partially mitigate these negative effects caused by PA.

Calcium influx and spermatogenesis in the testis and liver enzyme activities in the zebrafish are rapidly modulated by the calcium content of the water

Hemily Batista-Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of varying environmental Ca2+ concentrations on the influx of Ca2+ to the testis, testicular morphology, and liver enzymes in the zebrafish. The results showed that different Ca2+ concentrations in the water can affect the influx of Ca2+ in the testis, cause morphological changes in the testes, and induce liver damage.

Low trifloxystrobin-tebuconazole concentrations induce cardiac and developmental toxicity in zebrafish by regulating notch mediated-oxidative stress generation

Kun Jia et al.

Summary: Trifloxystrobin-tebuconazole (TFS-TBZ) is a novel fungicide frequently detected in the environment and agricultural products. This study reveals that TFS-TBZ has adverse effects on the heart and development of zebrafish, including hindered development, inhibited growth, and significant abnormities at higher concentrations. Notch signaling inhibition and increased oxidative stress play important roles in mediating these effects.

Bromuconazole exposure induces cardiotoxicity and lipid transport disorder in larval zebrafish

Zhen Qin et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the toxicity of bromuconazole (BRO), a typical triazole fungicide, on zebrafish embryos. The results showed that BRO affected heart rate, growing development, myocardial contraction function, and lipid transport in larval zebrafish in a concentration-dependent manner. Transcriptomic analysis revealed disturbances in lipid metabolism, myocardial function, and glycometabolism, which were consistent with the morphological and genetic damage observed in the re-exposure experiments. Moreover, BRO exposure also caused oxidative stress in the larvae.
