A County-Level Spatial Study of Serum Selenoprotein P and Keshan Disease

Yuehui Jia et al.

Summary: This study provided geographically precise evidence of selenium nutrition at the molecular level to assess KD prevention and control. The globally clustered SELENOP levels and identification of cold spots in KD endemic provinces highlight the importance of precision prevention and control efforts.

Association of selenium levels with the prevention and control of Keshan disease: A cross-sectional study

Jie Hou et al.

Summary: This study found that residents in areas with a high prevalence of Keshan disease are selenium-deficient, and the low selenium levels are associated with KD control. Increasing the supply of staple foods containing selenium levels exceeding 0.025 mg/kg may contribute to the control and prevention of KD.

Hair Selenium Content in Middle-Aged and Elderly Chinese Population

Mengli Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the median hair Se content of middle-aged and elderly Chinese was 0.36 μg/g, ranging from 0.08 to 20.04 μg/g. Participants from Guangdong and Hunan provinces had the highest Se levels, while those from Henan and Shaanxi provinces had the lowest levels. Males had higher Se content than females, with no significant differences between different ages and BMIs.
