Identification of a protective Bacteroides strain of alcoholic liver disease and its synergistic effect with pectin

Qiangqiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that Bacteroides strain B. fragilis ATCC25285 has protective effects against alcoholic liver disease (ALD), reducing liver injury and steatosis. When combined with pectin, it shows synergistic effects by modulating gut microbiota, improving tryptophan metabolism, and regulating intestinal immune function. These findings suggest that the combination of B. fragilis ATCC25285 and pectin could be a potential treatment for ALD.

Combined intake of blueberry juice and probiotics ameliorate mitochondrial dysfunction by activating SIRT1 in alcoholic fatty liver disease

Houmin Fan et al.

Summary: The study found that the combination of blueberry juice and probiotics significantly improved hepatocyte mitochondrial dysfunction in mice with alcoholic fatty liver disease. This improvement was mainly achieved through regulating the expression of respiratory chain enzymes, enhancing mitochondrial function, and other pathways.

Mediation of the microbiome-gut axis by oyster (Crassostrea gigas) polysaccharides: A possible protective role in alcoholic liver injury

Suisui Jiang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the molecular mechanism of oyster polysaccharides in preventing alcoholic liver injury and found that the steaming process had little influence on their bioactivity. The treatments with RPS and SPS protected gut functions by enhancing tight-junction proteins expression, suppressing inflammatory responses, and modulating microbiota composition and SCFAs levels. These results suggest that oyster polysaccharides alleviate alcoholic liver injury by mediating the gut-liver-metabolite axis.

Lactobacillus casei relieves liver injury by regulating immunity and suppression of the enterogenic endotoxin-induced inflammatory response in rats cotreated with alcohol and iron

Xuelong Li et al.

Summary: The supplementation of Lactobacillus casei was found to alleviate disorders associated with lipid metabolism, inflammation, and intestinal mucosal barrier injury in rats co-exposed to alcohol and iron. It also significantly decreased markers of liver injury, improved intestinal mucosal barrier function, and modulated immune responses in rats. This improvement in liver injury may be related to immune regulation and inhibition of enterogenic endotoxin-mediated inflammation.
