Predicting microvascular invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma: A dual-institution study on gadoxetate disodium-enhanced MRI

Hanyu Jiang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to develop and validate a scoring system for predicting microvascular invasion (MVI) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The results showed that the preoperative MVI score, which integrated five EOB-MRI features and serum alpha-fetoprotein level, accurately predicted MVI and postoperative survival in HCC. This score could be useful in making individualized treatment decisions.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Quantification of contrast agent uptake in the hepatobiliary phase helps to differentiate hepatocellular carcinoma grade

Michael Haimerl et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the differentiation degree of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) using Gd-EOB-DTPA-assisted MRI with T1 relaxometry. The results suggest that the uptake of Gd-EOB-DTPA in HCCs correlates with tumor grade, indicating that Gd-EOB-DTPA-assisted T1 relaxometry can aid in further differentiating HCC.

Preoperative prediction of pathologic grade of HCC on gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced dynamic MRI

Dailin Rong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the value of gadobenate dimeglumine-enhanced MRI in predicting the pathologic grade of HCC. Lower RE (EAP), absence of capsule, and arterial peritumoral hyperenhancement were identified as predictive biomarkers for poorer pathologic grade of HCC. Combined analysis of these factors increased the predictive value for poorer pathologic grade.

Preoperative CT for Characterization of Aggressive Macrotrabecular-Massive Subtype and Vessels That Encapsulate Tumor Clusters Pattern in Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Zhichao Feng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the potential of preoperative CT in predicting the MTM subtype and VETC pattern of HCC. Specific CT imaging features were identified as predictors for tumor subtype, leading to the development of prognostic scoring systems. The predictive performance was validated in a separate cohort, with high ANH and high SN phenotype being independently associated with early recurrence after surgical resection.

Prognostic nomogram for hepatocellular carcinoma with radiofrequency ablation: a retrospective cohort study

Zhenhua Lu et al.

Summary: This study identified prognostic factors for hepatocellular carcinoma patients treated with radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and developed nomograms for predicting cancer-specific survival (CSS) and overall survival (OS). The nomograms showed excellent accuracy in predicting outcomes, outperforming the traditional tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) staging system.

Gadoxetate-enhanced MRI Features of Proliferative Hepatocellular Carcinoma Are Prognostic after Surgery

Hyo-Jin Kang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the gadoxetate-enhanced MRI findings and prognostic significance of the proliferative class of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgery. The proliferative class was associated with poor overall survival, increased rates of intrahepatic and extrahepatic metastasis, and specific predictive factors such as rim arterial phase hyperenhancement on MRI and high serum alpha-fetoprotein levels.

The Prognostic Impact of Tumor Differentiation on Recurrence and Survival after Resection of Hepatocellular Carcinoma Is Dependent on Tumor Size

Hiroji Shinkawa et al.

Summary: The study found a correlation between poor differentiation and tumor size of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with survival outcomes, indicating that poorly differentiated HCCs were associated with early recurrence in larger tumors.
