FAST-LIO2: Fast Direct LiDAD-Inertial Odometry

Wei Xu et al.

Summary: This article presents FAST-LIO2, a fast, robust, and versatile LiDAR-inertial odometry framework. It introduces two key novelties, the direct registration of raw points to the map and the use of an incremental k-dimensional tree data structure for map maintenance. FAST-LIO2 achieves superior performance compared to existing methods and supports various LiDAR configurations and platforms.

Wheel-INS: A Wheel-Mounted MEMS IMU-Based Dead Reckoning System

Xiaoji Niu et al.

Summary: This article proposes a complete dead reckoning (DR) solution called Wheel-INS, which is based on a wheel-mounted microelectromechanical system (MEMS) inertial measurement unit (IMU). By mounting the IMU to the center of a non-steering wheel, the system can calculate wheel speed and mitigate error drift, resulting in improved accuracy and robustness of the inertial navigation system. Experimental results show that Wheel-INS outperforms traditional odometer-aided INS and has inherent immunity to constant bias error of gyroscopes.

A Comparison of Three Measurement Models for the Wheel-Mounted MEMS IMU-Based Dead Reckoning System

Yibin Wu et al.

Summary: This study explores three measurement models in a Wheel-IMU based DR system and successfully improves the system's performance by fusing them with INS using EKF. Experimental results demonstrate that the displacement increment measurement model is less sensitive to the lever arm error between the Wheel-IMU and the wheel center, leading to overall stability in performance.
