Climate change and spatio-temporal trend analysis of climate extremes in the homogeneous climatic zones of Pakistan during 1962-2019

Firdos Khan et al.

Summary: Climate extremes, such as heat waves, droughts, and extreme rainfall, pose a threat to global food security. Investigating the changes in climate and climate extremes is crucial for mitigating the impacts of climate change. This study analyzed observed data from meteorological stations in Pakistan to assess the changes in temperature, precipitation, and climatic extremes. The findings provide valuable insights for addressing climate action, hunger, and environment-related sustainable development goals, as well as developing adaptation and mitigation strategies against climate change.

Evaluation of CMIP5 models and ensemble climate projections using a Bayesian approach: a case study of the Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan

Firdos Khan et al.

Summary: This study utilized Bayesian Model Averaging for selecting suitable climate models for the Upper Indus Basin in Pakistan and produced ensemble climate projections for 2011-2040. The ensemble projections showed a higher correlation with observed data, successfully captured the data trend, and closely matched extreme values. Comparing results under different emission scenarios, RCP8.5 displayed greater changes in future temperature and precipitation compared to RCP4.5.

A holistic view of Shisper Glacier surge and outburst floods: from physical processes to downstream impacts

Sher Muhammad et al.

Summary: The study observed a surge in velocity and terminus advance at Shisper Glacier in the Karakoram, Pakistan, with repeated blockages of adjacent rivers. Lake outbursts occurred in 2019 and 2020, with simulations showing damages mainly along the main river channel and a risk of erosion potential affecting the downstream Hunza River.
