Pre-conceptional and prenatal exposure to pesticides and pediatric neuroblastoma. A meta-analysis of nine studies

Aiza Khan et al.

Summary: The study found that prenatal exposure to pesticides is associated with an increased incidence of neuroblastoma in children, while postnatal exposure does not have a significant association. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has evaluated the carcinogenicity of diazinon, glyphosate, malathion, parathion, and tetrachlorvinphos.

Transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) proteolytically activates the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) by cleaving the channel's γ-subunit

Florian Sure et al.

Summary: The study shows that human TMPRSS2 can stimulate channel activity in heterologously expressed ENaC, likely through increasing channel open probability. Additionally, TMPRSS2 plays a dual role in the release of the gamma-inhibitory tract.

Allethrin Promotes Apoptosis and Autophagy Associated with the Oxidative Stress-Related PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Pathway in Developing Rat Ovaries

Maroua Jalouli et al.

Summary: This study investigated the developmental effects of the pyrethroid-based insecticide allethrin on ovarian function in rat offspring. The results showed that allethrin-induced ovarian damage was associated with increased oxidative stress and apoptosis. Furthermore, allethrin promoted autophagy and inhibited the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway. These findings suggest that allethrin exposure can negatively affect follicle structure and function, leading to ovarian dysfunction and impaired fertility in female offspring.

Permethrin induced arterial retention of native and oxidized LDL in rats by promoting inflammation, oxidative stress and affecting LDL receptors, and collagen genes

Anouar Feriani et al.

Summary: This study is the first to examine the potential mechanism by which long-term exposure to permethrin promotes arterial retention of proatherogenic lipids and lipoproteins, leading to vascular dysfunction in rats. Permethrin exposure induces arterial oxidative damage, exacerbates inflammatory responses, and disrupts the aortic extracellular matrix content.

Linseed ameliorates renal apoptosis in rat fetuses induced by single or combined exposure to diesel nanoparticles or fenitrothion by inhibiting transcriptional activation of p21/p53 and caspase-3/9 through pro-oxidant stimulus

Khairy A. Ibrahim et al.

Summary: The study showed that supplementation of linseed significantly improved the disturbances in oxidant/antioxidant biomarkers, downregulated the expressions of apoptosis genes, and alleviated DNA damage, while also improving renal cell architecture.

Epithelial Sodium Channel and Salt-Sensitive Hypertension

Stephanie M. Mutchler et al.

Summary: The development of high blood pressure is influenced by genetic and environmental factors, with high salt intake being a known environmental contributor. There is a spectrum of sodium-sensitivity among individuals, partly due to genetic variation in pathways involved in sodium handling and excretion. ENaC plays a crucial role in regulating extracellular fluid volume and blood pressure by facilitating sodium reabsorption in the distal nephron.

Oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis and autophagy involved in Ni-induced nephrotoxicity in the mice

Hongrui Guo et al.

Summary: The study found that nickel-mediated renal injury is associated with oxidative stress-induced apoptosis and autophagy. NAC, as an effective antioxidant, can suppress nickel-induced oxidative stress and alleviate kidney damage.

Biochemical and histopathological responses in peripubertal male rats exposed to agrochemicals isolated or in combination: A multivariate data analysis study

Maria Luiza Garcia Aranha et al.

Summary: This study investigated the hepatic damages caused by exposure to acephate, carbendazim, and mancozeb in juvenile rats. The exposure led to increased DNA damage and activation of the xenobiotic biotransformation system. Interestingly, the ternary mixture did not exacerbate adverse effects, suggesting a possible antagonistic chemical interaction among the three agrochemicals.

Surgical procedures suppress autophagic flux in the kidney

Carolyn N. Brown et al.

Summary: Both sham surgery and unilateral nephrectomy in mice resulted in increased mTORC1/2 and suppressed autophagic flux in the remaining kidney, accompanied by an intense systemic inflammatory response. Additionally, there was a significant increase in ERK1/2 in the kidney, which could be blocked by MEK1/2 inhibitor trametinib.
