Pesticidal potential of some wild plant essential oils against grain pests Tribolium castaneum (Herbst, 1797) and Aspergillus flavus (Link, 1809)

Muhammad Azeem et al.

Summary: This study aimed to identify plant-based natural pesticides to control Tribolium castaneum and Aspergillus flavus in stored grains. Essential oils from Chenopodium ambrosioides and Erigeron canadensis showed excellent toxicity against T. castaneum and exhibited good anti-fungal activity against A. flavus. These findings suggest that these essential oils can play an important role in protecting stored grains from contamination by T. castaneum and A. flavus.

Geo-spatially modelling dengue epidemics in urban cities: a case study of Lahore, Pakistan

Muhammad Imran et al.

Summary: This study aimed to predict the epidemiological impact of dengue fever arbovirosis in urban tropical areas of Pakistan by developing a GWLR model for geospatially predicting Aedes larvae presence. The study found significant relationships between temperature, rainfall, and NDVI variables with the presence of Aedes larvae in the South and Southeast of the study area, while weak relationships were observed in highly populated areas in the North and North-West. Interpolating GWLR coefficients generated more accurate maps of Aedes larvae presence or absence.

Three molecules found in rosemary or nutmeg essential oils repel ticks (Dermacentor variabilis) more effectively than DEET in a no-human assay

Colin Wong et al.

Summary: The study compared different natural products as potential repellents and found that many of them can elicit a strong response from ticks. Among them, myristicin and safrole found in nutmeg oil, and terpinolene found in nutmeg oil and as a minor constituent of rosemary oil, performed significantly better than DEET in the assay.

Comparative Chemical Profiles of the Essential Oils from Different Varieties of Psidium guajava L.

Emad M. Hassan et al.

Summary: This study compared the chemical profiles of essential oils extracted from leaves of six guava varieties cultivated in Egypt, revealing substantial variations in composition which are rich in biologically active compounds. These findings suggest potential pharmacological and industrial applications of guava leaves waste products.

The entomological impact of passive metofluthrin emanators against indoor Aedes aegypti: A randomized field trial

Gregor J. Devine et al.

Summary: This study is the first randomized control trial to evaluate the entomological impact of any volatile pyrethroid on urban Aedes aegypti populations. Results indicate that volatile pyrethroids can have a sustained impact on Aedes aegypti densities and human-vector contact indoors, despite the presence of pyrethroid-resistant alleles in the target population.

Mulberry Protection through Flowering-Stage Essential Oil of Artemisia annua against the Lesser Mulberry Pyralid, Glyphodes pyloalis Walker

Marziyeh Oftadeh et al.

Summary: The study showed that the essential oil from Artemisia annua flowers has toxic effects on Glyphodes pyloalis larvae by reducing their digestive and detoxifying enzyme activity, as well as protein, glucose, and triglyceride levels. The immune system of treated larvae was weakened, and histological changes were observed in the midgut and ovaries. Therefore, the essential oil can be considered as a safe and effective insecticide for protecting mulberry trees.

Enhancement of Temephos and Deltamethrin Toxicity by Petroselinum crispum Oil and its Main Constituents Against Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)

Anuluck Junkum et al.

Summary: The study confirmed the significant larvicidal effects of Petroselinum crispum essential oil and its main compounds against both pyrethroid-susceptible and resistant strains of Aedes aegypti, as well as their ability to enhance the efficacy of insecticides, particularly in mosquitoes with resistance.

Insecticide resistance and genetic structure of Aedes aegypti populations from Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil

Rafi Ur Rahman et al.

Summary: Research found that Aedes aegypti populations in RJ are becoming more susceptible to larvicide temephos, with lower resistance ratios in populations where gene flow might be occurring. Additionally, populations were susceptible to pyriproxyfen and malathion, highly resistant to deltamethrin, and partially explained by high frequencies of kdr alleles. Population genetic analysis identified potential genetic clusters within RJ populations and higher gene flow in a touristic region. The study highlights the importance of monitoring insecticide resistance and genetic diversity for effective vector control programs.

Cuticular thickening associated with insecticide resistance in dengue vector,Aedes aegyptiL.

Roopa Rani Samal et al.

Summary: The study found differential resistance development in Ae. aegypti larvae to acetamiprid and deltamethrin, possibly correlated with cuticular thickening. Increased cuticular thickness in selected strains may inhibit insecticide penetration, leading to resistance development.
