Number of Teeth Is Related to Craniofacial Morphology in Humans

Elias S. Oeschger et al.

Summary: The reduction in teeth number in modern humans is associated with changes in facial morphology, indicating an evolutionary trend in overall craniofacial development.

Third Molar Agenesis Is Associated with Facial Size

Nikolaos Gkantidis et al.

Summary: The study found that individuals missing third molars had significantly smaller maxilla, mandible, and facial configurations, and the impact was more pronounced with a higher number of missing third molars. Isolated third molar agenesis may be part of a developmental mechanism leading to craniofacial size reduction.

Sexual dimorphism of tooth agenesis patterns in non-syndromic oligodontia in Japanese patients

Ayaka Sato et al.

Summary: This study investigated sex-associated differences in tooth agenesis patterns in patients with non-syndromic oligodontia. While no significant sex difference in the distribution of the number of agenetic teeth was observed, prevalence of certain tooth types varied significantly between males and females. Sexual dimorphism was observed in the highly ranked tooth agenesis patterns.
