Abdul Sammad et al.

Summary: This study evaluated various influencing factors of rumination time (RT) variation in Holstein cattle in China using wearable neck sensors. The results showed that year, season, parity, THI, R2h, and DIM had a significant effect on the diurnal rhythm of rumination. Moreover, there were differences in rumination time between primiparous cows and multiparous cows, particularly in summer.

Heat Stress-Mediated Constraints in Maize (Zea mays) Production: Challenges and Solutions

Ahmed H. El-Sappah et al.

Summary: An increase in temperature and extreme heat stress cause a global reduction in maize yield. Heat stress affects the plasma membrane functioning of mitochondria and chloroplast, leading to the over-accumulation of reactive oxygen species. This activates a signal cascade that induces the transcription of heat shock proteins. The denaturation and accumulation of misfolded or unfolded proteins generate cell toxicity and result in the death of maize plants. Therefore, the development of heat-tolerant maize varieties is urgently needed.

Transcriptome Analyses Reveal Essential Roles of Alternative Splicing Regulation in Heat-Stressed Holstein Cows

Lirong Hu et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the changes in milk yield, physiological indicators, blood biochemical parameters, and alternative splicing patterns in lactating Holstein cows under heat stress conditions. The results showed that heat stress negatively impacted various biological processes of Holstein cows. Additionally, heat stress increased the occurrence of alternative splicing events, with genes involved in mRNA splicing, immune, and metabolic processes being enriched. Two candidate genes associated with heat stress responses in dairy cows were identified.
