Predictive Value of Echocardiographic Strain for Myocardial Fibrosis and Adverse Outcomes in Autoimmune Diseases

Fuwei Jia et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between myocardial strain and fibrosis in AIDs patients, finding that impaired GLS was related to the presence and extent of myocardial fibrosis, and provided incremental prognostic value in addition to LGE for predicting adverse outcomes.

Progression of Myocardial Fibrosis in Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy

Manhal Habib et al.

Summary: Myocardial fibrosis in patients with HCM is a slowly progressive process. Progression of LGE is significantly correlated with a number of clinical outcomes such as progression to EF <= 50% and heart failure admission. Judicious use of serial CMR with LGE can provide valuable information to help patient management.

Myocardial work index: a marker of left ventricular contractility in pressure-induced or volume overload-induced heart failure

Balint Karoly Lakatos et al.

Summary: The study suggests that in heart failure induced by pressure or volume overload, the global myocardial work index (GMWI) may more accurately reflect left ventricular contractility, while global longitudinal strain (GLS) is influenced by loading conditions and may not be a reliable marker of LV contractility.

Non-contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance detection of myocardial fibrosis in Duchenne muscular dystrophy

Frank J. Raucci et al.

Summary: In this study of 156 CMRs in 66 DMD boys, it was found that native T1 mapping and circumferential epsilon(cc) and longitudinal epsilon(ls) strain can detect myocardial fibrosis. Global epsilon(ls) and epsilon(cc) strongly predicted the presence or absence of LGE, while global native T1 did not. These pre-contrast sequences are predictive of the presence and severity of LGE, but may not be a replacement for LGE in all cases.
