Reticular Nanoscience: Bottom-Up Assembly Nanotechnology

Jacopo Andreo et al.

Summary: The chemistry of metal-organic and covalent organic frameworks (MOFs and COFs) is highly diverse and inclusive. When blended with nanotechnology, it forms reticular nanoscience with immense potential in various technological fields. This article explores the possibilities of framework nanoparticles, their unique properties, and potential applications in medicine, catalysis, energy, and sensors. It also introduces the concept of augmented reticular chemistry, which aims to reach higher dimensions and complexity in materials.

A review of common practices in gravimetric and volumetric adsorption kinetic experiments

Jin-Yu Wang et al.

Summary: The availability of commercial gravimetric and volumetric systems for measuring adsorption equilibrium has led to an increased use of these instruments for measuring adsorption kinetics. However, a review of publications from the past 20 years identified worrying trends, such as lack of information on experimental conditions and use of inappropriate models for data analysis. In order to provide guidance, this study discusses appropriate models for diffusion in porous materials and common practices in recent publications, concluding with recommendations to avoid misinterpretation of experiments.

25 Years of Reticular Chemistry

Ralph Freund et al.

Summary: The core of reticular chemistry has brought precision and expertise of organic and inorganic synthesis to the solid state. The most profound scientific innovation of this field has been the design strategies for the synthesis of extended crystalline solids through strong directional bonds, highlighting the different classes of reticular materials developed and how complexity can be introduced into their backbones. Structural control over these materials is being extended from the molecular scale to their crystal morphology and shape on the nanoscale, all the way to their shaping on the bulk scale.

Surface modified by green synthetic of Cu-MOF-74 to improve the anti-biofouling properties of PVDF membranes

Hongai Zheng et al.

Summary: Mitigation of membrane fouling is crucial in membrane technology applications. A novel Cu-MOF-74 was synthesized and coated on PVDF membranes to enhance their anti-biofouling properties. The Cu-MOF-74 increased membrane hydrophilicity and roughness, sustained Cu2+ release, and generated (OH)-O-center dot to combat bacteria, showing high potential in water treatment applications.

The evolution of commercial drug delivery technologies

Ava M. Vargason et al.

Summary: This review article discusses how challenges in delivering small molecules, nucleic acids, peptides, proteins, and cells have led to the development of commercial products and are now guiding the delivery of live-cell therapeutics. Drug delivery technologies have enabled the development of pharmaceutical products that enhance therapeutic delivery, minimize off-target effects, and improve patient compliance. Three drug delivery paradigms have been developed to aid in the successful delivery of small molecules and macromolecules, contributing to the initial clinical success of each therapeutic class.

Insights into Paraben Adsorption by Metal-Organic Frameworks for Analytical Applications

Providencia Gonzalez-Hernandez et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are used as sorbents in analytical microextraction applications for contaminants of emerging concern (CECs) from environmental liquid matrices. The interactions of target analytes with the frameworks can be comprehensively studied through single-crystal X-ray diffraction, computational analysis, and adsorption studies. A study on Zn-based layered pillared MOFs showed that CIM-81 has a high adsorption capacity for PPB, making it suitable for monitoring low levels of CECs.
