Development, Validation, and Application of a Simple and Rugged HPLC Method for Boswellic Acids for a Comparative Study of Their Abundance in Different Species of Boswellia Gum Resins

Alberto Asteggiano et al.

Summary: This article introduces an HPLC method for the quantification of boswellic acids, which can be used for the analysis of food-grade resin extracts of Boswellia plant species. The method can be applied for quality control and studying the differences in regional origin, years of harvesting, and species-related differences.

Synthesis of 3-O-Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic Acid (AKBA)-Derived Amides and Their Mitochondria-Targeted Antitumor Activities

Changhao Li et al.

Summary: In this study, a series of derivatives were synthesized and a derivative named 5e showed stronger antitumor activity than the parent structure AKBA. Further experiments demonstrated that 5e could induce vacuolization and production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in A549 cells, but did not induce apoptosis. Additionally, 5e caused abnormal opening of mitochondrial permeability transition pore and a decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential, contributing to its antitumor effects.

Synthesis, crystal structure and Hirshfeld Surface analysis of benzamide derivatives of thiourea as potent inhibitors of α-glucosidase in-vitro

Sidra Akhter et al.

Summary: The benzamide-based structural analogues showed potent inhibition of alpha-glucosidase, with most compounds being non-cytotoxic and demonstrating significant DPPH radical scavenging activity. Compound 9 exhibited cytotoxicity against 3T3 normal mouse fibroblast cell lines. Mode of enzyme inhibition was determined for some compounds based on kinetic studies.

Celebrex derivatives: Synthesis, α-glucosidase inhibition, crystal structures and molecular docking studies

Nabeela Kausar et al.

Summary: Celebrex, commonly used as an anti-inflammatory drug, was functionalized to identify new alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. Many synthesized derivatives showed potent alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity in vitro, with compound 9 being the most effective inhibitor. Molecular docking studies revealed interactions of compounds 6 and 9 with key amino acid residues of alpha-glucosidase.

Boswellic acids: privileged structures to develop lead compounds for anticancer drug discovery

Hidayat Hussain et al.

Summary: Natural boswellic acids (BAs) derived from frankincense have shown promising anticancer effects and can potentially be utilized in future cancer treatments. Semisynthetic derivatives of BAs, particularly those with cyanoenone moieties in ring A, endoperoxides, and hybrids, exhibit potent cytotoxic effects and have the potential to enhance the efficacy of other anticancer compounds. Future research should focus on the preparation of these derivatives to advance them as lead anticancer compounds.

New synthetic 1H-1,2,3-triazole derivatives of 3-O-acetyl-β-boswellic acid and 3-O-acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid from Boswellia sacra inhibit carbonic anhydrase II in vitro

Satya Kumar Avula et al.

Summary: A series of new derivatives of boswellic acids were synthesized and evaluated for their inhibitory activity against carbonic anhydrase II, showing moderate to significant inhibition. The most active inhibitors were found to be non-competitive inhibitors with specific inhibition constants. Molecular docking studies revealed the compounds' accommodation in the allosteric site of carbonic anhydrase II.
