Design of Ordered Mesoporous CeO2-YSZ Nanocomposite Thin Films with Mixed Ionic/Electronic Conductivity via Surface Engineering

Erdogan Celik et al.

Summary: This study investigates the design of mixed-conducting nanocomposites by surface modification using atomic layer deposition (ALD). It was found that the porosity of the nanocomposites has no effect on their charge-transport properties, while the thickness of the ceria layer plays an important role.

Structural, morphological and optical properties of atomic layer deposited transition metal (Co, Ni or Fe)- doped ZnO layers

Albena Paskaleva et al.

Summary: This study investigates the feasibility of using atomic layer deposition (ALD) to prepare transition metal (Ni-, Co- or Fe-) doped ZnO thin films. The effects of dopants on the structure, morphology and optical properties of the films were examined, with different dopants affecting the preferential orientation of crystallites. The results suggest the potential for implementing these materials in advanced electronic, magnetic or optical applications.

Surface Diffusion Control Enables Tailored-Aspect-Ratio Nanostructures in Area-Selective Atomic Layer Deposition

Philip Klement et al.

Summary: Area-selective atomic layer deposition is a crucial technology in modern microelectronics, allowing material deposition only in specific areas to eliminate alignment errors. However, the control of the deposition process remains a challenge as selectivity of the no-growth areas is quickly lost. Surface modifications of the substrate strongly manipulate surface diffusion, enabling the tuning of nanostructures with tailored aspect ratios and offering new strategies in area-selective deposition processes.

A molecular photosensitizer achieves a Voc of 1.24V enabling highly efficient and stable dye-sensitized solar cells with copper(II/I)-based electrolyte

Dan Zhang et al.

Summary: Developing photosensitizers with high open-circuit voltage (V-oc) is important to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of co-sensitized solar cells. By employing a carefully tailored organic sensitizer MS5 with copper electrolyte, the authors achieved a V-oc of 1.24V and recorded a PCE of 34.5% under ambient light.

Influence of Mg-doping on the characteristics of ZnO photoanodes in dye-sensitized solar cells†

Andreas Ringleb et al.

Summary: The research found that V-OC of DSSCs can be significantly increased by Mg-doping, and the Mg concentration in MZO affects the transport and recombination of electrons in MZO, which in turn influences the performance of the cells. Nanoparticles with a pure ZnO core and an MZO shell structure can help reduce the impact of increased transport resistance in MZO and utilize the improved V-OC.
