The Effect of Different Substrates on the Morphological Features and Polyols Production of Endomyces magnusii Yeast during Long-Lasting Cultivation

Anastasia S. Kokoreva et al.

Summary: The study showed that the type of substrate had the greatest impact on yeast cell size, with cells grown on 2% glucose being 30-35% larger than those grown on glycerol. As glucose concentration decreased, cell length slightly changed, with pseudo-mycelium appearing in cultures using low glucose. Respiration rate decreased over time, and the composition of soluble cytosol carbohydrates changed accordingly.

A glucose-starvation response governs endocytic trafficking and eisosomal retention of surface cargoes in budding yeast

Kamilla M. E. Laidlaw et al.

Summary: Eukaryotic cells adjust their metabolism in response to extracellular environment, with downregulation of surface cargo proteins under nutrient stress to enhance nutrient uptake. Glucose starvation triggers various transcriptional responses, including increased internalization and nutrient transport, enabling cells to persist and maximize nutrient uptake during starvation.

The Potential of Calorie Restriction and Calorie Restriction Mimetics in Delaying Aging: Focus on Experimental Models

Summary: Aging is a biological process influenced by multiple cellular mechanisms leading to functional decline. The growth of the elderly population and their susceptibility to diseases drive the search for anti-aging interventions, with calorie restriction identified as an effective approach.

A cell-nonautonomous mechanism of yeast chronological aging regulated by caloric restriction and one-carbon metabolism

Elisa Enriquez-Hesles et al.

Summary: Caloric restriction has been shown to improve the health span and life span of various organisms by influencing the metabolism of specific amino acids, such as L-serine, through the one-carbon metabolism pathway. This mechanism suggests a potential non-cell-autonomous regulation of life span, providing insights into interventions for aging-associated diseases.
