P2RX7 at the Host-Pathogen Interface of Infectious Diseases

Alexandra Y. Soare et al.

Summary: P2X7 receptors play important roles in immune response to various pathogens, mediating and modulating immune responses in different cell types. Their signaling is critical in perceiving damage-associated molecular patterns released by infected cells and facilitating immune responses.

The Wide Range of Antibiotic Resistance and Variability of Genotypic Profiles in Escherichia coli from Domestic Animals in Eastern Sicily

Nunziatina Russo et al.

Summary: This study focused on the biodiversity, pathogenicity, and antibiotic resistance profile of 104 E. coli strains isolated from domestic animals in Eastern Sicily. The strains showed multi-resistance against at least three antibiotic classes, with high levels of resistance observed against amoxicillin, tylosin, sulfamethoxazole, and erythromycin. The study also identified two EPEC strains and highlighted a wide variety of genotyping profiles through PFGE analysis.

Mapping foodborne pathogen contamination throughout the conventional and alternative poultry supply chains

Chase E. Golden et al.

Summary: The increasing consumer demand for natural and organic food products has led to the popularity of alternative poultry production systems. These systems may pose different levels of microbiological risks compared to conventional production systems, and both types of production systems have complex supply chains that can lead to contamination with foodborne pathogens. Understanding these risks and identifying knowledge gaps can help in making poultry risk-based decisions.
