Novel Digital Light Processing Printing Strategy Using a Collagen-Based Bioink with Prospective Cross-Linker Procyanidins

Summary: A novel digital light processing bioink has been developed by incorporating a small amount of procyanidins as a cross-linking agent with collagen, providing good fluidity and excellent biocompatibility. This collagen-based ink can achieve high resolution printing on commercial DLP printers, with cells being loaded and distributed uniformly in the collagen scaffold without damage. The photocurable collagen bioink shows great application potential in DLP 3D bioprinting.

The study also evaluated the effect of sterilization methods on bioink properties and demonstrated the high viability of cells printed with AG-Gel bioinks.

Summary: Three-dimensional bioprinting based on digital light processing (DLP) provides opportunities for mimicking human tissues. However, the limited availability of biocompatible and biodegradable bioinks hinders progress in this field. This study presents a silk fibroin-derived bioink for DLP bioprinting, which exhibits bone-like viscoelastic behavior and favorable degradation. The bioink supports cell proliferation and osteogenesis. This work highlights the importance of silk fibroin-derived bioinks in tissue engineering.

Lower stage temperatures significantly enhance structural stability, while CaCl2 enhances stability without affecting cell viability.

A digital light processing 3D printed magnetic bioreactor system using silk magnetic bioink

Summary: In this study, a magnetic bioreactor system and magnetic hydrogel were fabricated using single-stage three-dimensional printing with digital light processing technique. The system provided mechanical stretching of cells in the hydrogel in 3D ways, promoting differentiation of myoblast cells. The magnetic bioreactor accelerated differentiation of mouse myoblast cells in the hydrogel and increased myotube diameter and length in vitro, demonstrating potential for muscle tissue engineering.

The incorporation of CNCs and pre-osteoblast cells enhances the rheological and mechanical properties of the bioinks, as well as promotes osteogenesis in chitosan scaffolds.

Preparation and Biocompatibility Characterization of Silk Fibroin 3D Scaffolds

Summary: This study used different mass fractions of sodium carbonate to degum silk fibroin fibers, resulting in the creation of 3D scaffolds with varying properties. The characterization of the silk fibroin fibers and scaffolds showed that excessive sodium carbonate can negatively impact fiber properties and degradation rate, while also affecting mineral deposition on the scaffolds over time. Additionally, the results highlighted the biocompatibility, mechanical properties, and degradability of the silk fibroin 3D scaffolds, indicating their potential as a barrier biofilm material in the future.
