Clinical Outcomes of 3D-Printed Bioresorbable Scaffolds for Bone Tissue Engineering-A Pilot Study on 126 Patients for Burrhole Covers in Subdural Hematoma

Emma M. S. Toh et al.

Summary: This study explored the cosmetic and safety outcomes of the bioresorbable burrhole cover Osteoplug (TM)-C for burrhole craniostomy. The results showed that patients using Osteoplug (TM)-C had higher satisfaction and quality of life compared to those without a burrhole cover. The absence of a burrhole cover was associated with poorer aesthetic outcomes. There were no significant differences in other clinical outcomes between different types of burrhole covers.

Tortuosity of porous media: Image analysis and physical simulation

Jinlong Fu et al.

Summary: Tortuosity is widely used as a crucial parameter in predicting transport properties of porous media, with various definitions and evaluation methods introduced. Geometrical and physical tortuosities can differ greatly in value and should not be used interchangeably. Phenomenological relations between geometrical and physical tortuosities have been established for accurate predictions, taking into account the influence of image size and resolution.

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) modeling of bone marrow through trabecular bone structure under compression

A. A. R. Rabiatul et al.

Summary: The study investigated the fluid characteristic and mechanical properties of trabecular bone using the FSI approach, finding moderate correlations between permeability and porosity, surface area in both longitudinal and transverse orientations. Transverse orientation limits fluid flow through trabeculae due to high shear stress. Compared to the longitudinal orientation, transverse orientation exhibits higher permeability.
