Utility of Early Posttreatment PET/CT Evaluation Using FDG or 18F-FCH to Predict Response to 90Y Radioembolization in Patients With Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Edouard Reizine et al.

Summary: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility of early post-treatment evaluation by PET/CT using FDG or F-18-FCH to predict 6-month treatment response and survival after TARE in patients with HCC.

Intraarterial Therapies for the Management of Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Tushar Garg et al.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common liver cancer, and transarterial therapies play a crucial role in patient management. This article reviews the different types of transarterial therapies and discusses the pre-procedural, intra-procedural, and post-procedural patient management, along with a review of the literature.

18F-FDG /18F-Choline Dual-Tracer PET Behavior and Tumor Differentiation in HepatoCellular Carcinoma. A Systematic Review

Jerome Ghidaglia et al.

Summary: Dual 18F-FDG/18F-Choline PET can assess the degree of differentiation in HCC tumors. However, there is a high overlap in the PET behavior of 18F-FDG/18F-Choline between well-differentiated and less-differentiated HCC, making it challenging to characterize tumors based on this PET combination alone. Further studies are needed to improve our understanding of radiotracer behavior in the field of HCC and enhance the usefulness of PET imaging in the clinical decision process.

Trans-arterial Radioembolization Dosimetry in 2022

Etienne Garin et al.

Summary: This review presents the dosimetry and radiobiology concepts of trans-arterial radioembolization, and provides the main clinical dosimetry results for hepatocellular carcinoma and metastases of colorectal carcinoma. The use of different microspheres or isotopes leads to different radiobiology effects, and personalized dosimetry has a significant impact on response and overall survival.

Clinical Application of Trans-Arterial Radioembolization in Hepatic Malignancies in Europe: First Results from the Prospective Multicentre Observational Study CIRSE Registry for SIR-Spheres Therapy (CIRT)

Thomas Helmberger et al.

Summary: The CIRT study analyzed 1027 patients and found that a majority of treatment intentions were palliative. Various malignant tumors had different median overall survival rates, and significant prognostic factors for survival included the presence of ascites, cirrhosis, extra-hepatic disease, patient performance status (ECOG), number of chemotherapy lines prior to TARE, and tumor burden.

Safety and efficacy of repeat Y90 radioembolization to the same hepatic arterial territory

Wali Badar et al.

Summary: Repeat TARE with glass microspheres is an effective and safe treatment strategy for disease management in patients with residual or recurrent disease to the similar hepatic arterial territories without any major treatment related toxicity. This study demonstrates that repeat treatment to the same hepatic arterial territory is as safe as single treatment to the same territory.

Summary: This study demonstrated that changes in metabolic parameters measured by F-18-fluorocholine PET/CT could predict the response to TARE treatment in HCC patients, with post-treatment inflammation playing a crucial role in prediction.

A new in vitro model applied 90Y microspheres to study the effects of low dose beta radiation on colorectal cancer cell line in various oxygenation conditions

Piotr Piasecki et al.

Summary: A new in vitro model was proposed to assess the effects of Y-90-microspheres derived low-dose beta radiation on colorectal cancer cells under various oxygenation conditions. The study found that hypoxia induced a higher resistance to radiation, and doses below 70 Gy could reduce colorectal cancer cell proliferation in vitro. This model could be useful for evaluating Y-90 radioembolization effects at the micro-scale.

Advances in immunotherapy for hepatocellular carcinoma

Bruno Sangro et al.

Summary: Immunotherapeutic interventions have shown effectiveness in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Checkpoint inhibitors have demonstrated strong anti-tumor activity, but other immune strategies have not yet shown consistent clinical activity. Advancing treatment to earlier stages, discovering predictive biomarkers, and exploring effective combinatorial approaches are key challenges in HCC immunotherapy.
