Circadian Regulation and Clock-Controlled Mechanisms of Glycerophospholipid Metabolism from Neuronal Cells and Tissues to Fibroblasts

Mario E. Guido et al.

Summary: Living organisms have developed a precise timekeeping system called circadian clocks to adapt to the 24-hour light/dark cycle and regulate cellular metabolism. The synthesis and degradation of glycerophospholipids (GPLs) are highly regulated processes across various cells and tissues, playing essential roles in cellular physiology.

Can Exposure to Environmental Pollutants Be Associated with Less Effective Chemotherapy in Cancer Patients?

Francisco Alejandro Lagunas-Rangel et al.

Summary: Environmental pollutants can have harmful effects on health and be linked to the development of diseases, including cancer. Exposure to certain pollutants may increase the risk of developing cancer and reduce the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs. Molecular mechanisms such as apoptosis evasion, DNA damage repair, activation of pro-cancer signaling pathways, drug efflux, and action of antioxidant enzymes may contribute to the chemoresistance caused by environmental pollutants.

Role of the Synergistic Interactions of Environmental Pollutants in the Development of Cancer

Francisco Alejandro Lagunas-Rangel et al.

Summary: There is an increasing awareness of the adverse health effects caused by the large number of environmental pollutants we are exposed to on a daily basis. However, compared to individual pollutants, there are relatively few studies on how pollutant mixtures interact and contribute to these health problems, especially in relation to cancer development. This paper discusses recent reports on possible synergistic interactions between different types of environmental pollutants and their impact on cancer development. The need for a better understanding of the physiological effects of pollutant mixtures, as well as improvements in research methodologies and tools, is emphasized.
