Learning Design Rules for Selective Oxidation Catalysts from High-Throughput Experimentation and Artificial Intelligence

Lucas Foppa et al.

Summary: The design of heterogeneous catalysts is challenging due to the complexity of materials and processes. This study demonstrates how artificial intelligence can be used to identify key physicochemical parameters for catalyst performance. By combining experimental and theoretical data, the researchers identified temperature, phosphorus content, and composition-weighted electronegativity as key parameters for high-yield oxygenate products.

A Heuristic Approach to Linking Experimental Descriptors with Product Selectivity in Electrochemical CO2 Reduction

Ganesan Raman

Summary: In this study, a machine learning approach is applied to correlate experimental conditions with product selectivity in electrochemical CO2 reduction. The obtained decision tree provides insights into the electrochemistry involved in product formation in ECR.

A kinetic descriptor for the electrolyte effect on the oxygen reduction kinetics on Pt(111)

Mingchuan Luo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the unexpected effect of non-specifically adsorbed anions on the kinetics of oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) on a Pt electrode, which is different from the usual ORR descriptor. A voltammetry-accessible descriptor is proposed to track the dependence of ORR rates on electrolytes, and a model is proposed to explain the different trends of ORR rates under different conditions.

On the shifting peak of volcano plots for oxygen reduction and evolution

Elizabeth Sargeant et al.

Summary: DFT calculations often show deviation from experimental equilibrium potentials. These deviations can be minimized through correction schemes. The impact of these errors on Sabatier-type activity plots used in electrocatalysis is not well understood. Gas-phase errors can cause drastic changes in activity plots and even predictions in stark contrast to experimental results.

Perspective on experimental evaluation of adsorption energies at solid/liquid interfaces

Aleksandar R. Zeradjanin et al.

Summary: This study proposes an experimental methodology for quantitatively describing adsorption energies at solid/liquid interfaces using the Kelvin probe technique. It provides valuable trends in adsorption energies for electrocatalytic reactions and may serve as a reliable source to complement DFT results in the future.
