Thermoelectric transport properties in chalcogenides ZnX (X=S, Se): From the role of electron-phonon couplings

Jincheng Ding et al.

Summary: In this study, the thermoelectric properties of zinc-blende chalcogenides ZnS and ZnSe were investigated through first-principles calculation, revealing the significant reduction of lattice thermal conductivity due to electron-phonon scattering. The research also highlighted the importance of electron-phonon coupling on thermoelectric properties, indicating the necessity of full evaluation for polar materials.

Impact of Electron-Phonon Interaction on Thermal Transport: A Review

Yujie Quan et al.

Summary: Understanding the transport properties and scattering mechanisms of phonons is crucial for heat conduction in solids, while electron-phonon interactions have been found to have significant effects on phonon transport in a wide variety of technologically relevant solid-state materials. Electron-phonon interactions can modify the total phonon scattering rates and renormalize the phonon frequency under thermal equilibrium conditions, and affect the coupled transport of electrons and phonons in the bulk under nonequilibrium transport conditions.

Electron-phonon coupling in the magnetic Weyl semimetal ZrCo2Sn

I. Yu Sklyadneva et al.

Summary: The electron-phonon coupling in ZrCo2Sn is investigated using density-functional theory, revealing that the strength of phonon-mediated scattering remains relatively weak, ranging from 0.1 to 0.3, with a momentum-averaged value ranging from 0.25 to 0.45. Most of the modes involved in electron scattering are middle- and high-frequency lattice vibrations, while low-energy acoustic phonons are significantly suppressed. Despite some dependence on phase space, the scattering of electrons near the Weyl point is found to be weak enough to maintain well-defined quasiparticles.

Tuning the phonon transport in bilayer graphene to an anomalous regime dominated by electron-phonon scattering

Xiaolong Yang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown the significance of electron-phonon interaction (EPI) in phonon transport at intermediate temperatures, where EPI can dominate over anharmonic phonon-phonon scattering in some metals, leading to an anomalous phonon transport regime. Using first-principles calculations, it was predicted that in bilayer graphene, tuning the doping level can drive phonon transport into the anomalous regime, resulting in a fivefold reduction of lattice thermal conductivity at room temperature. The origin of this anomalous behavior lies in mirror symmetry breaking, dominance of normal processes in anharmonic ph-ph scattering, and the indirect effect of EPI on K-L.
