Imaging and quantifying non-radiative losses at 23% efficient inverted perovskite solar cells interfaces

Stefania Cacovich et al.

Summary: Interface engineering using passivating agents is an effective strategy to improve the performance of perovskite solar cells. This study investigates the interface and device physics of high efficiency inverted solar cells, quantifying charge recombination and losses. The results show that organic passivation mainly affects the perovskite/PCBM interface, and the use of organic passivation maximizes the photovoltaic figures of merit.

Visualizing Macroscopic Inhomogeneities in Perovskite Solar Cells

Akash Dasgupta et al.

Summary: Despite remarkable progress, the efficiency of perovskite solar cells remains limited to small areas. This is partly due to the poor understanding of spatial heterogeneity in devices. Conventional techniques to assess heterogeneities are time-consuming, limited to microscopic length scales, and require specialized equipment. This study overcomes these limitations by using luminescence imaging to reveal large heterogeneities at millimeter scale, providing valuable insights into charge collection quality and ranking the suitability of different transport layers for upscaling.

Over 15% efficiency all-small-molecule organic solar cells enabled by a C-shaped small molecule donor with tailorable asymmetric backbone

Xunchang Wang et al.

Summary: This study introduces two C-shaped SM donors with asymmetric central cores, which exhibit matched absorption and energy levels with the acceptor Y6, leading to outstanding power conversion efficiency in ASM-OSCs. The asymmetric core design allows the SM donor to easily penetrate neighboring Y6 molecules, preventing rapid aggregation and large domains of single components in blends. This innovative approach paves the way for highly efficient ASM-OSCs.

Residential net-zero energy buildings: Review and perspective

Wu Wei et al.

Summary: Advancements in residential net-zero energy buildings (NZEBs) are crucial for reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, with design considerations including energy infrastructure connections, renewable energy sources, and energy-efficiency measures. A systematic literature review focused on recent progress in residential NZEBs is lacking, making this work aiming to provide references and support for wider and more successful implementation of residential NZEBs worldwide. The discussed categories include energy infrastructure connections like electrical grids and energy storage options, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind, and energy-efficiency measures like improved building designs and efficient HVAC systems. This paper highlights technology options to achieve residential NZEBs globally.

Optically Clear Films of Formamidinium Lead Bromide Perovskite for Wide-Band-Gap, Solution-Processed, Semitransparent Solar Cells

Sunil B. Shivarudraiah et al.

Summary: In this study, an in situ technique based on photoluminescence measurements was developed to identify the optimal delay time for antisolvent crystallization in formamidinium lead bromide (FAPbBr(3)). Monitoring the in situ photoluminescence allowed for easy identification of nucleation, crystal growth, and early perovskite formation phases for a range of concentrations. Subsequently, opaque and semitransparent solar cells were fabricated with optically clear perovskite films formed from precursors with varying concentrations, achieving high average visible transmittance and power conversion efficiencies.
