Polyzwitterion Manipulates Remineralization and Antibiofilm Functions against Dental Demineralization

Summary: This study developed a dual-functional nanocomposite with antibiofilm and remineralization properties, composed of zwitterionic poly(carboxybetaine acrylamide) and amorphous calcium phosphate. The nanocomposite exhibited significant inhibitory effects on bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation, and demonstrated bactericidal activities under acidic conditions. Furthermore, it showed better effects in promoting dental caries treatment compared to fluoride.

NIR-activated nanosystems with self-modulated bacteria targeting for enhanced biofilm eradication and caries prevention

Summary: We have developed a microenvironment-activated nanoplatform for efficient targeted delivery of antimicrobial drugs to oral biofilms. The nanoplatform can penetrate biofilms and release drugs under acidic conditions, resulting in targeted drug delivery to bacteria. Under near-infrared irradiation, the nanoplatform exhibits enhanced biofilm penetration and disruption capabilities compared to drugs alone.

Summary: The research developed a smart bioadhesive hydrogel sealant with self-healing and excellent antibacterial activity, showing high effectiveness in wound closure and post-wound-closure care. The hydrogel features autonomous healing, on-demand dissolution, injectability, good biocompatibility, antibacterial properties, multifunctional adhesiveness, and NIR responsiveness. In vivo evaluation demonstrated the great potential of the smart hydrogel in dealing with skin incisions and infected full-thickness skin wounds.

Summary: The (MMT/PLL-CHX)(10) multilayer films exhibited high bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus and perfect biocompatibility with rat osteoblasts in vitro. In vivo antimicrobial tests showed that K-wires coated with (MMT/PLL-CHX)(10) multilayer films had lower infection rates and inflammation levels, suggesting potential therapeutic value for orthopaedic implant-related infections.
