Optimized Cycle and Safety Performance of Lithium-Metal Batteries with the Sustained-Release Effect of Nano CaCO3

Qingkui Peng et al.

Summary: The application of lithium-metal batteries (LMBs) has been hindered by capacity attenuation and poor safety caused by lithium dendrite and interface side reactions. A new solid additive, nano CaCO3, is proposed to address this issue. The nano CaCO3 particles can continuously absorb decomposition by-products and release Ca2+, inhibiting Li+ deposition and promoting the formation of stable solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI). Adding 3 wt.% nano CaCO3 improves the electrochemical performance and extends the cycle life of commercial carbonate electrolyte. The modified emulsion-like electrolyte also enhances the safety of LMBs.
