Enhancing Moisture Stability of Sulfide Solid-State Electrolytes by Reversible Amphipathic Molecular Coating

Zhaoxin Yu et al.

Summary: The all-solid-state battery (ASSB) is a promising energy storage technology for consumer electronics and electric vehicles. However, the poor moisture stability of sulfide solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) has hindered their mass production and application. In this study, a reversible surface coating strategy using amphipathic organic molecules is proposed to enhance the moisture stability of SSEs. This finding provides a new pathway for the deployment of moisture-sensitive SSEs and other energy materials.

On the Additive Microstructure in Composite Cathodes and Alumina-Coated Carbon Microwires for Improved All-Solid-State Batteries

Simon Randau et al.

Summary: The study investigates the influence of different morphologies and surface areas of carbon additives on the performance of all-solid-state batteries, revealing that fiber-shaped vapor-grown carbon additives can enhance cathode active material utilization, while particle-shaped carbons have minor effects. However, carbon additives generally lead to accelerated capacity loss and increased formation of solid electrolyte decomposition products. A protection concept involving alumina coating on carbon fibers is developed to minimize electrolyte degradation and enhance overall battery performance.

Tailoring Slurries Using Cosolvents and Li Salt Targeting Practical All-Solid-State Batteries Employing Sulfide Solid Electrolytes

Kyu Tae Kim et al.

Summary: In this study, a new scalable fabrication protocol for a Li+-conductive dry polymer electrolyte (DPE)-type binder, nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR)-LiTFSI, is reported. The dispersion of NBR can be controlled by adjusting the fraction of antisolvent in the cosolvents, ultimately affecting the performance of all-solid-state Li batteries. Sheet-type electrodes tailored using NBR-LiTFSI demonstrate superior capacity and initial Coulombic efficiency compared to those prepared using conventional insulating binder, attributed to facilitated interfacial Li+ transport.
