Enhancing high-temperature capacitor performance of polymer nanocomposites by adjusting the energy level structure in the micro-/meso-scopic interface region

Jiufeng Dong et al.

Summary: The interface plays a significant role in the conduction and breakdown behaviors of dielectric materials. This study focuses on the effect of the energy level structure in the filler/polymer and electrode/dielectric interface region on the breakdown strength and high-temperature energy storage performances. By incorporating wide bandgap oxide layers, this study reveals that the energy level structure of the interface region can be regulated, which introduces deep traps in the nanocomposites and increases the Schottky barrier to impede charge injection and transport. The nanocomposites exhibit enhanced dielectric constants and improved capacitive performance at elevated temperatures.

Flexible cyclic-olefin with enhanced dipolar relaxation for harsh condition electrification

Chao Wu et al.

Summary: Flexibility, large bandgap, and high thermal stability are achieved simultaneously in the design of a new polymer material m-POFNB for electrification under harsh conditions. The introduction of an asymmetric fluorinated aromatic pendant group on the backbone allows m-POFNB to exhibit high dielectric constant without sacrificing the bandgap. This work provides a new strategy to break the paradox of mutually exclusive constraints between bandgap, dielectric constant, and thermal stability in the design of all-organic polymer dielectrics for harsh condition electrifications.
