Enhancement of the quasi-static stab resistance of Kevlar fabrics impregnated with shear thickening

Danyang Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of distribution and quantity of shear thickening fluid (STF) on the stab resistance performance and weight of STF/Kevlar (SK) fabrics. The tests show that uniform distribution of SiO2 nanoparticles in Kevlar fabrics significantly improves stab resistance force and weight gain. Additionally, the added STF has minimal impact on fabric flexibility, and the high inter-yarn friction of SK fabric enhances yarns' resistance to relative motion, maximizing the impact energy dissipation.

Towards safe and collaborative aerodrome operations: Assessing shared situational awareness for adverse weather detection with EEG-enabled Bayesian neural networks

Cho Yin Yiu et al.

Summary: Teams composed of aviation professionals are crucial for maintaining a safe and efficient airport environment. This research evaluates the impact of an enhanced communication protocol on cognitive workload under adverse weather conditions and develops a human-centered classification model for identifying hazardous meteorological conditions. The findings indicate that reduced visibility significantly increases subjective workload, but inclusion of turning direction information in communications does not intensify cognitive workload. The proposed Bayesian neural network-based classification model outperforms other algorithms in identifying potentially hazardous weather conditions.

Radiation effect on stability and interfacial property of PBO fibers through high energy electron beam

Wei Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the radiation effect on PBO fibers and finds that the structure and mechanical strength do not change obviously at absorbed doses below 10 MGy, indicating a high radiation resistance. Although PBO fibers can degrade to some extent at absorbed doses over 50 MGy, the relative viscosity retention rate remains high.

Study on behavior and mechanism of low-velocity impact and post-impact flexural properties of carbon-aramid/epoxy resin laminated composites

Jin Tian et al.

Summary: The paper investigates the effects of hybrid effect and stacking configuration of carbon fiber and aramid fiber fabric on the properties of composite laminates. The ACACA laminated structure shows the best impact resistance and residual flexural property. Micro-CT analysis reveals the damage modes of the laminates under impact and post-impact flexural. The distribution of aramid fibers effectively reduces material damage caused by stress concentration.

High-performance fibrous artificial muscle based on reversible shape memory UHMWPE

Y. Li et al.

Summary: Shape memory polymer fibers (SMPFs) are a significant branch of intelligent fibers. They have been widely used in intelligent textiles, polymer fillers, and medical fields. However, most reported SMPFs only exhibit a one-way shape memory effect, which cannot be reversed by simply reversing the stimulus. In this study, researchers successfully prepared two-way SMPFs using ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) as the polymer matrix, which have high tensile strength, reversible strain, and are suitable for industrial mass production.
