Seismic assessment and fragility analysis of traditional Chinese timber frame building considering degraded connections

Analysis on the mechanical performance of Dougong bracket sets under eccentric vertical load

Summary: This paper investigates the mechanical performance of Dougong bracket sets under eccentric vertical loads. The study shows that eccentric loads change the load transferring path in Dougongs and decrease their bearing capacities significantly. Parametric analyses indicate that as the load eccentricities increase, the elastic and plastic stiffness of Dougongs decrease.

Experimental and numerical study on eccentric compression performance of Dou-Gong brackets at column tops

Summary: The study quantitatively investigated the influence of vertical eccentric loads on the mechanical performance of Dou-Gong brackets at column tops in ancient timber buildings. It was found that vertical eccentricity significantly affects the load-bearing capacity of the brackets, leading to a more brittle failure pattern and reduced overall strength. Further finite element analysis showed that larger eccentricities cause notable tilting damage and decreased ultimate strength of the brackets.

Simplified Simulation Method for Hysteretic Behavior of Wood Brackets

Summary: Wooden architectural heritage in East Asia holds high historical, cultural, and scientific value, thus requiring comprehensive protection. A simplified finite element model of dou-gongs was developed to investigate their hysteresis performance quantitatively. The study reviewed types of Song-style dou-gongs, determined eight parameters, and compared predicted hysteresis behaviors with experimental results to validate accuracy and rationality.

An experimental study of the combined hysteretic behavior of dougong and upper frame in Yingxian Wood Pagoda

Summary: This study investigates the importance of connection between dougong layer and beam-column frame layer in the overall mechanical performance of multi-layer structures. Experimental tests on door model and brace model reveal different hysteretic behaviors and stiffness ratios between dougong layer and upper beam-column frame layer, indicating the dominance of the latter in the overall mechanical behavior of the structure.
