Review of Recent Offshore Wind Turbine Research and Optimization Methodologies in Their Design

Jieyan Chen et al.

Summary: As international efforts to address climate change grow, many countries and companies have set clear net zero goals by accelerating renewable energy development. Offshore wind energy, as a renewable energy source, has attracted attention and is an active research area. However, the design of offshore wind turbine structures faces challenges, requiring advanced optimization technology to address them.

Transient analysis of the slamming wave load on an offshore wind turbine foundation generated by different types of breaking waves

Yu-Hsien Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, a computational fluid dynamics model was used to simulate the impact of breaking waves on the foundation of an offshore wind turbine. The accuracy of the simulation was validated with experimental results. The influence of wave-breaking location and type on the support structure was analyzed, and a dynamic model was established to consider the characteristics of the wave loads. The results showed that the surf-similarity parameter and relative breaking distance are key factors in understanding the run-up phenomena and wave loads.

Numerical Simulation of Irregular Breaking Waves Using a Coupled Artificial Compressibility Method

Athanasios Dermatis et al.

Summary: This study addresses the challenges of modeling wave breaking using numerical/computational methods and proposes solutions for generating irregular waves and incorporating turbulent regime in the solver. The methodology is validated through a test case and demonstrates the ability to accurately capture irregular breaking wave phenomena while producing results in good agreement with experimental data.

Assessment of Methods for Calculating Liquefied Natural Gas Pump Tower Loads

Michael Thome et al.

Summary: This paper presents a comparative numerical study on liquefied natural gas (LNG) pump tower loads, focusing on the relevance of impact loads and the influence of fluid-structure interaction. The results show that the time evolution of loads, especially at their peaks, differs significantly, which is considered important for structural design.
