Potential ameliorative role of Spirulina platensis in powdered or extract forms against cyclic heat stress in broiler chickens

Ahmed M. Elbaz et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of Spirulina platensis powder and aqueous extract on the growth and physiological responses of heat-stressed broiler chicks. The results showed that both forms of Spirulina platensis had significant effects on improving body weight, weight gain, and feed conversion ratio. The powder form was more effective in enhancing broiler productivity and alleviating the negative impacts of heat stress.

Summary: This study investigated the antimicrobial and antioxidant activity of Spirulina extracts and biological selenium nanoparticles. The results showed that Spirulina extracts exhibited antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, with the methanolic extract showing the highest activity. The selenium nanoparticles synthesized by Bacillus subtilis AL43 also showed antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. Spirulina and selenium nanoparticles have potential for safe and reliable medical applications.

Hypocholesterolemic, Antioxidative, and Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Dietary Spirulina platensisis Supplementation on Laying Hens Exposed to Cyclic Heat Stress

Morshed I. M. Al-Otaibi et al.

Summary: Heat stress has a negative impact on the productive performance, cholesterol profile, redox status, and inflammatory cytokines of laying hens. This study investigated the role of dietary supplementation with Spirulina platensis in relieving the negative impacts of heat stress on these aspects. The results showed that adding spirulina to the diets improved the production of lower-cholesterol eggs and reduced the negative effects of heat stress. Increasing levels of spirulina in the diets led to better results in both heat-stressed and non-heat-stressed layers. Adding 9% spirulina to the diets significantly alleviated the negative impacts of heat stress. This study suggests that incorporating spirulina into the diets of laying hens can be a promising approach to improve their productive and physiological performance, particularly under heat stress conditions.
