Fusion Bonding Possibility for Incompatible Polymers by the Novel Ultrasonic Welding Technology: Effect of Interfacial Compatibilization

Xie Fu et al.

Summary: In this study, fusion bonding of incompatible polymers PP and PA6 was achieved by introducing an interlayer solder sheet (ISS) consisting of maleic anhydride-functionalized polypropylene (PP-g-MAH) and polyamide6 (PA6). The welding strength reached a high level, and the copolymer acted as an emulsifier to enhance the interfacial adhesion between PP and PA6.

Ultrasonic welding of fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites: Current understanding and challenges

Yaqiong Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents the current understanding of the ultrasonic welding of fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites, focusing on weldability, welding quality, and underlying mechanisms in acoustic transmission, heat generation, and joint formation. Challenges in understanding this technique include special physical properties due to fibrous fillers, interphase interaction under ultrasonic energy, and melting and molecular inter-diffusion at the interface.

Structural and Barrier Properties of Compatibilized PE/PA6 Multinanolayer Films

Quentin Lozay et al.

Summary: The study focused on the production of PE/PA6 multilayer films using multinanolayer coextrusion technique, which revealed changes in crystalline morphology and microstructure when the thickness of each polymer layer decreased to the nano-scale, impacting the gas and water transport properties. Despite the change in crystal orientation, a slight improvement in gas barrier properties was observed.

Transformation plasticity of AF1410 steel and its influences on the welding residual stress and distortion: Experimental and numerical study

Kaiyuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of transformation plasticity on welding residual stress and distortion in AF1410 steel through experimental and numerical simulation methods. The results showed that transformation plasticity can reduce stress variation, but has little impact on distortion.

Friction stir spot welding of dissimilar ABS and PA6 by a tool with newly designed tooth-shaped flat pin

Yinfei Yan et al.

Summary: A specially designed flat-pin tool was used to friction stir spot weld ABS and PA6 plates, effectively enhancing the mechanical interlocking between the lapped sheets. The study also found that rotational speed significantly influences weld formation, PA6 morphology, and joint mechanical properties.

Strategy of Fabricating Flexible Strain Sensor via Layer-by-Layer Assembly of Conductive Hydrogels

Yao Chen et al.

Summary: A flexible strain sensor with a hydrogels-conductive materials-hydrogels hierarchical sandwich structure was prepared using layer-by-layer assembly technology in this study. The introduction of MXene materials significantly improved the sensitivity of the sensor. The sensor could withstand various forms of deformation and stress, showing potential applications in human-activity monitoring.

On the sensitivity of the ultrasonic welding process of epoxy- to polyetheretherketone (PEEK)-based composites to the welding force and amplitude of vibrations

Eirini Tsiangou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the sensitivity of the ultrasonic welding process for joining dissimilar composites to variations in welding force or vibration amplitude, finding that reducing either parameter increases heating time and maximum temperatures. Despite local signs of thermal degradation, these alterations do not significantly affect the maximum lap shear strength of the welded joints.
